The vineyards are pruned and we’re ready for the season leading up to Vintage 2021. All of our vineyard sites have experienced good Winter rainfall this year, which is great news for the coming season. Winter rain means that water is soaked into the soil, and remains there until the vines need it as Spring warms up. It’s certainly different to previous years where Winter has been unusually dry.
Our winery team has been hard at work bottling a number of new wines, as well as the usual finishing off and filtration of the new vintage wines before they go into barrel. We’re normally pretty busy at this time of the year with wine shows too, but they’ve mostly been cancelled this year.
NEW RELEASES
St Annes 2019 Merlot is bottled. And the exciting news is that it’s a Heathcote wine! St Annes Heathcote Merlot is a wonderfully deep, fruit driven wine that displays an abundance of cherry , blackcurrant and violet characters. The Oak usage was careful, and we used French Oak which imparts delightful vanilla nuances.
We’re pleased to announce that a 375ml version of our incredible Liqueur Tawny is now available. Liqueur Tawny is our oldest Tawny on sale, and we select it from only the best barrels from our Tawny collection. We taste and double taste every single barrel before it’s added to the blend. It’s careful work, but so important to ensure the Liqueur Tawny is the best it can be. Of course, tasting old Tawnies from dozens of barrels is one of those jobs the winemaking team really look forward to! The 375ml Liqueur Tawny joins the range alongside the beautiful Liqueur Tawny Decanter and the two litre refill. The refill means that the lovely Decanters can be refilled and used over and over again.
WELCOME TOPAQUE
Certainly not a new wine, but a new name. Tokay is now known as Topaque in Australia. The term Tokay refers now solely to wines from the Tokaj region of Hungary, where the style originated from. It’s about the last European place name to be phased out in Australia, following the likes of Champagne, Burgundy, Port and Hermitage.
But luckily for us, we still have the delicious wine available. Liqueur Topaque is still available at St Annes, and in three sizes – 375ml, the 700ml Decanter and of course the two-litre refill for Decanters.
With flavours of butterscotch and fruitcake, deliciously rich palate and warm mouthfeel, this Topaque really is an excellent example of Australian Topaque. It’s won gold medals for it’s quality!
