There’s nothing quite like holding a steaming mug between your hands on a cold day, and even better if that mug has wine in it! Whether you’re snuggled up by a fire or hosting family and friends, mulled wine is the perfect beverage to enjoy in the cooler months.
The beauty of mulled wine lies in its simplicity – with just a handful of ingredients, you can transform a bottle of wine into a sensory experience. Made with your choice of red wine, various spices, fruits sweeteners, it’s a seasonal favourite that warms the soul.
This recipe is inspired by the mulled wine we often enjoy at our markets at St. Anne’s Winery Bendigo & Myrniong during the colder months. or near Christmas time To make your own St. Anne’s Mulled Wine, follow this recipe at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of St. Anne’s Red WIne: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz
- ¼ cup Echuca Chocolate Orange Liqueur
- 1 whole orange, sliced into rounds
- 8 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 2 – 4 tsbp of sugar or honey
Step 1:
Combine ingredients. Add wine, liqueur, orange slices, cinnamon, star anise, & sweetener to a large saucepan. Stir.
Step 2:
Simmer. Cook on medium-high heat until it reaches a low simmer. Avoid letting it bubble. Reduce heat & cover. Simmer for at least 15 mins or up to 3 hours.
Step 3:
Strain & serve. Enjoy!
