Our Muscat vineyards are grown at our winery block on sandy yellow clay loam soils which present us with bright floral noted grapes. After a small amount of fermentation to release the Muscat’s varietal aromas, grape spirit is added to maintain the naturally rich sugar concentration. This young Brown Muscat displays lifted floral aromatics and has a long butterscotch finish.
Muscat is grown in sunny regions to maximise the length of the ripening season as we harvest this variety very late. The fruit is left of the vines until all the other wine has been made for the year, and the muscat berries begin to shrivel and dry out. At the time of harvest, the fruit is very, very sweet. The grapes are crushed then fermented along with their flavoursome skins. The fermentation is stopped when quality brandy is added to the ferment, resulting in a beautifully sweet wine but also a wine with high alcohol (18%).
Be sure to grab some St Annes port glasses for enjoying this lovely fortified wine.
