We take you through the Christmas menu and tell you what you’ll need on hand at every stage.
SEAFOOD
Seafood is a big part of an Australian Christmas. Summer in December means it’s often cold dishes that take precedent.
For shellfish like prawns and lobster, we suggest our Pinot Gris. Its nashi pear and citrus aromas are well-matched to the lighter seafood flavours. And, to counteract the Australian heat, it’s best served cold.
TRADITIONAL MEATS
If your meat of choice is a more traditional ham or turkey, we suggest our Tatalia Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre. With its lighter spicier notes, it is perfect for even a hot Christmas. Our 2015 vintage has just been released here– just in time!
Heading towards dessert, we’ve got three suggestions.
CHRISTMAS PUDDING
If you’ve opted for the traditional approach, our Liqueur Muscat will see you through. Like Christmas pudding, it is decadent, but the acid line here helps cut through the richness. It’s perfect to finish a beautiful meal– or as a gift in a decanter. It features festive flavours of dried fruits and spices, with a long buttery finish. You could even try our Tatalia Sparkling Shiraz– its soft sweetness and acidity will balance the richness beautifully.
PAVLOVA
For the Australian favourite, Pavlova, you need our St Anne’s favourite: our gorgeous Moscato. Like the best Moscatos, it has just a hint of sweetness.
Our tawnies, too, are a top pick for finishing a meal. Can you think of anything more enjoyable than a glass of tawny to finish off an evening of celebrations with family? We’re not sure we can, either…
